Mondo Las Vegas:
More about The Fountains at Bellagio:The Fountains at Bellagio are a sight to see. I have seen the rock quarry fountains at Butchart Gardens in Victoria Canada and I have seen the Dancing Waters at the Disneyland Hotel, but nothing comes close to the fountains on the quarter mile wide man-made lake at Bellagio. The fountains were designed by WET Design who have done numerous other famous fountains: the Universal CityWalk Fountain. the LeapFrog Fountain at Disney World's EPCOT, Watercourt in downtown Los Angeles, the fountains at Seattle Center, the Sky Rockets at Chicago's Navy Pier, the Los Angeles Music Center's interactive fountain AND the Mirage Volcano. 1200 individual fountain jets shoot water up to 243 feet in the air with a resounding thunder and crash. This along with the 4,500 orchestrated lights and music not to mention the fact that it is free make it a must see while you are in Las Vegas. Don't just do a quick drive by. Make sure you stop and see a whole musical routine or 2. The shows run every half hour (every fifteen minutes after 8PM) Mon through Friday from 3PM to midnight and on Saturday and Sunday from noon to midnight, barring inclement weather like high winds. (And speaking of wind - the south side of the lake is not a bad place to be on a hot day when the wind is blowing south.) If you are staying at the Bellagio definitely opt for a lake view room as they have the fountain music piped into your room through the tv and you can watch the show in complete air conditioned confort. The waters dance for about 5-10 minutes depending on the length of the song. The $40 million 'shows' were conceived by Mr. Steve Wynn when he was Chairman of Mirage Resorts were produced with the help of WET Design's Mark Fuller and Claire Kahn and composer / conductor Gerard Schurmann ("Lawrence of Arabia") and choreographer Kenny Ortega ("Dirty Dancing"). The songs range from "One, Singular Sensation," from A Chorus Line on Broadway, to "Fly Me To The Moon," written by Bart Howard performed by Frank Sinatra to my personal favorite the light operatic pieces like Rondine al Nido. If you take the time to fully enjoy the fountains at Bellagio, they will stir you.Listed under:Special Ratings: Top Ten List | For Out-of-TownersRelated Links:BellagioWet Design See the Waters dance to Rondine here.
