More about McCarran Airport:

United Airlines was the first to service Las Vegas with regular flights in 1947. But McCarran Airport did not officially open until 1963. Incidentally, it was during this same year on November 25, that the casinos closed from 7 a.m. to midnight to mourn the assassination of President Kennedy. It is the only time in history that the casinos have all closed at once.

There is a nice original pink neon sign on the Western side of the airport that is worth seeing. It dates back to 1948. This sign marks the original entrance to the field and now to the private Hughes executive airport terminal. The lettered sign itself is flanked by 2 columns with neon propellers and bird wings.
